THIS MARKER HONORING OUR ANCESTOR, JOHN ZINK, WAS PLACED ON THE WALL OF THE MASOOD FUNERAL HOME IN SAXTON, BEDFORD CO., PENNSYLVANIA IN 1967 BY A DESCENDANT, JOHN ZINK WAS BORN IN CUMBERLAND CO. PENNSYLVANIA ON JUNE 6, 1758. IT IS BELIEVED THAT HE ENLISTED IN THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR PRIOR TO HIS MARRIAGE TO ELIZABETH WILSON HOW ON APRIL 8, 1780. SERVING IN CAPTAIN ANDREW WALKER'S NINETH COMPANY, 11TH PENNSYLVANIA REGIMENT CONTINENTAL LINE, HE ASSISTED IN PROTECTING THE NEARBY VALLEYS FROM THE MAURADING DEPREDATIONS OF THE BRITISH AND THEIR INDIAN ALLIES. HIS SERVICE RECORD IS IN THE PENNSYLVANIA ARCHIVES, FIFTH SERIES, VOL. 3, PAGE 663 WHERE HIS NAME IS SPELLED SINK. IT IS BELIEVED THAT HE IS BURIED IN A CEMETERY THAT IS UNDER THE FUNERAL HOME AS IT EXISTED IN 1967. |
