MOST MEMORABLE TOMBSTONES
I have always been fastinated with old tombstones and the following is a sampling of the oldest, most beautiful, and most interesting that we found on our recent trip to the east coast.  Please note the beautiful carvings and interesting inscriptions.
ABOVE:  The oldest stone and one of the most beautiful tombstones memorializing Capt. John Williams was found in "THE MEN OF KENT CEMETERY" in Scituate, Massachusetts.  Note the eyes of the death angel  are cut out as was common in the oldest stones.

BELOW:  Note the different interpretations of the death angel by the artists in tombstones made for the two young sons of Jessie and Damaris Dickerman who died 4 years apart in comparision with the tombstone above which was created about a century before.  These tombtones are found in the MT. CARMEL CEMETERY, Hamden, Connecticut.

LEFT:  The most interesting inscription was found on this tombstone in the Milford Cemetery, Milford, Connecticut of Miss Mary Fowler who died at age 24 years.

The inscription reads:
"MOLLY THO PLEASANT IN HER DAY
WAS SUDDENLY SEIZED AND SENT AWAY
HOW SOON SHES RIPE BECAUSE SHES ROTTEN
SENT TO HER GRAVE AND SOON FORGOTTEN"

"Where, O death is your victory?  Where, O death is your sting?
The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.  But thanks be to God.  He gives us the victory through our LORD JESUS CHRIST."
I Corinthians 15: 55-56
